who we are

Scarborough Smartbox is a youth development program created to give young people in Scarborough a safe and structured environment after school where they can grow physically, emotionally, and academically. Powered by Red Owl Boxing, the program blends high intensity training with mentorship, tutoring, counselling, and nutritional support, creating a comprehensive model that helps youth build stronger routines and confidence.

our mission

The mission of Smartbox is to strengthen the lives of Scarborough youth by offering a program that promotes discipline, resilience, and long term wellbeing. Through structured sessions and tailored support, Smartbox helps participants improve school attendance, build emotional stability, enhance academic engagement, and develop the life skills needed to navigate challenges with confidence.

Why Smartbox Exists

Young people in Scarborough often face barriers related to school engagement, family pressures, community environments, or limited access to safe and supportive after school spaces. Smartbox was created to respond to these challenges by providing a program that builds consistency and mentorship where it is needed most.

How the Program Works

Each session includes boxing training, academic support, mentorship check ins, counselling access, and a healthy meal. After completing the program, participants receive a full year membership at Red Owl Boxing to maintain progress and stay connected to supportive adults and peers. This extended pathway allows youth to continue building the habits and relationships that lead to long term growth.

Who We Serve

Many of our participants are referred by schools, youth agencies, and community partners who recognize when a student needs a positive environment outside of their regular school day.

Our Approach

We believe that young people thrive when they feel seen, supported, and challenged in healthy ways. Staff and mentors use trauma informed practices and youth centered methods to help participants build self awareness, discipline, communication skills, and a stronger sense of belonging.
